What are Closed Chain Exercises? A must after ACL surgery.

Closed kinetic chain exercises or closed chain exercises (CKC) are prescribed for the first 4-6 weeks post ACL repair.

These exercises involve the distal limb, in this case foot, to be in a fixed position.

This means that the foot has to be weight bearing and movement should be done without moving the foot.

This is extremely important after an ACL surgery, as the act of lifting or leaving your leg in the air can be enough force to RE-SNAP the ACL.

A general rule that we give all our patients after an ACL injury is to constantly support the leg while moving or transferring. This can be done with the good leg or with your arm.

This is a video of one of our go-to exercises immediately after an ACL repair.
